On December 4, 2025, our department hosted a talk by Research Assistant Yasin Taşdemir from Istanbul University, titled “Artificial Intelligence and Linguistics: The Past, Present, and Future of the Relationship.”

The presentation examined the historical development of artificial intelligence, its current capabilities, and its potential future interactions with the field of linguistics. Taşdemir discussed the transformation of AI from early rule-based systems to today’s deep learning models, highlighting the crucial role of linguistic theory in natural language processing (NLP). He also addressed the interaction between linguistic knowledge and large language models, the future of meaning representation, and the ethical and methodological considerations of AI-supported linguistic research.
