Kocaeli University hosted the 37th National Linguistics Congress on May 16-17, 2024, welcoming linguists from all over Turkey. This significant event showcased current studies from various disciplines within linguistics.
Dr. Oktay ÇINAR, a faculty member of our department, participated in the congress with two papers. The first paper was co-authored with Dr. Sinan ÇAKIR from Necmettin Erbakan University’s Department of Linguistics. Titled "Overt Pronoun Constraint in Turkish: A Processing-Based Assessment," this study deeply analyzed the binding relationships of null and overt pronouns in Turkish language structure and how these bindings are handled in language processing. The research discussed the functionality of Overt Pronoun Constraint in Turkish, debating its universality.
Dr. ÇINAR's second paper was titled "Processing of Null and Overt Subject Pronouns in Turkish." This study addressed the language processing mechanisms of subject pronouns in Turkish, particularly how null and overt pronoun forms are perceived and processed. The research highlighted the interactions between grammatical structures and contextual knowledge.
Both presentations aimed to contribute to the development of new methodologies in the field of linguistics. Participants benefited from the information and discussions presented, finding opportunities to advance their own work in linguistics.
