28.04.2025

Our department's students participated with four oral presentations in the 18th National Linguistics Student Conference, held on April 25, 2025, and organized by the Department of Linguistics at Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya.

The National Linguistics Student Conference, hosted by a different university each year, aims to support undergraduate research in linguistics and encourage young researchers in their academic pursuits. This year, the conference, hosted by Necmettin Erbakan University, welcomed students from various universities across Turkey.

Our students attracted attention with their original research on diverse topics:

Our first-year students Beyza Küçükay, Arzum Uzunlulu, Zehra İpek, and Nefin Janset Güzeler presented an oral paper titled "Sexist Discourses Toward Turkish Women Participating in Erasmus Programs: A Discourse Analysis in Digital Media," where they examined the use of sexist language toward women in digital media platforms through discourse analysis.

Our second-year students Esma Yelmen, Semire Nur Başoğlu, Şevval Konuk, and Duru Bulut delivered a presentation titled "The Humor Language of Youth in the Context of Digital Culture: A Social Media-Based Analysis in Turkey," analyzing the impact of digital culture on the humor language of young people.

Duru Bulut and Esma Yelmen also presented a second oral paper titled "The Legitimation of Crime and Self-Presentation Strategies in Serial Killer Statements: A Discourse Analysis and Author Profiling Approach," offering a unique perspective by combining discourse analysis and author profiling methods to study the language strategies used in criminal narratives.

Beyza Küçükay, Arzum Uzunlulu, Zehra İpek, and Nefin Janset Güzeler participated with another research as well, presenting their study titled "The Performative Language of Gender: Discourse and Language Construction in Figures Adopting Female Roles," where they discussed the linguistic construction of gender roles.

We sincerely congratulate our students for their outstanding academic achievements and dedication showcased at this prestigious event, and we wish them continued success in their academic careers.
